Art Sneakin' Up
Pamela Price writing for I V Y Paris
Walking down another small random street in Paris.
Passing a Boulangerie. Passing a Tabac. Maybe I'll buy a baguette. Don't feel like turning around. Passing an Art Gallery. Don't feel like going in.
I would have walked right past Item Éditions, but a kind old man swung the gallery doors open and urged me to take a look at the exhibition. It was a small venue, but a pleasant one. I read the vernissage info, David Lynch: Prints in Paris. I had no idea the intriguing Hollywood director was also a fine artist, exhibiting in this teensy gallery off of rue du Montparnasse. I was impressed...
After viewing Lynch's work, the man (not sure if he owned the place or if he was a curator of some sort) gave me a tour of the gallery's printing studio, showing me some personal work done by contemporary artist, Paul McCarthy.
Unfortunately the Lynch exhibition has come and gone, but the gallery is showing Pierre La Police's eccentric cartoons from February 7th to March 15th. Grab a baguette, pass the Tabac, and give a shout to my old friend. Maybe ask for a tour.

David Lynch did a show at the Cartier Museum on Blvd. Raspail last summer. I guess he likes Montparnasse - and that's a good thing. The more artists/film directors - the merrier!
