Laura Covaci & Wen Wen Xue at Galerie 208

Image007 The Galerie 208 Chicheportiche present artists Laura Covaci and Wen Wen Xue from January 22nd through March 3rd, 2009.

Both artists denounce the current state of the world in their interpretation of reality and distortion of symbolic characters, whether they be toys or stuffed animals.
Covaci's "Four seasons" aren't referring to the weather but to a conspiracy structured in four sequences, based on the idea that man has been trivialized by reason.

Wen Wen Xue on the other hand focuses on violence. His sculptures recall well known characters from comic books to video games and describes them as a "Disneyland of massacre":

"The public watches films of massacre and combat as if they were watching a football game, in calmness and security. The showing of violence and death becomes a fiction that can be consumed with chips and beer."

The Galerie Chicheportiche created by Patrica Chicheportiche in 2006 is a space dedicated to contemporary art that deals with current issues presented by the media and public debates and seeks to contribute to a prospective vision in the evolution of our environment.

Vernissage Thursday January 22nd, 2009 from 19h to 21h.
