AIR Krems in Austria Calls for Artists

Studiobild1 In order to promote international cultural exchange, the federal state of Lower Austria has initiated an artist-in-residence program, for which it has set up five studio apartments and a large common room on the top floor of the former carpet factory within the Art Mile in Krems (Kunst meile Krems).

In order to ensure diversity and a vibrant atmosphere among the studios, the AIR Krems program will award its scholarships to artists from the fields of visual arts, literature, architecture, and music.

These studio apartments, which have housed artists from many different countries since 2000, serve as temporary living and working spaces and provide the opportunity for both international and interdisciplinary exchange.

The aim of the artist-in-residence program is to establish partnerships with international institutions that award artist scholarships and provide studios to visiting artists, in order to give artists from Lower Austria opportunities for living and working abroad.

The basic prerequisite for funding is a degree in a field of art (university level). If the applicant does not have a university degree, proof of equivalent ability must be provided through his or her artistic career. In any case, the applicant must demonstrate regular artistic activity in the proposed areas of funding.

Applicants can be artists from the areas of visual arts, music, sound art, literature, and architecture. Austrian artists are not eligible to apply.

Participants will be determined by an advisory council for the given discipline. The application deadline for each upcoming year is May 30.
